We left Kawe early morning on New Years Eve, heading for the party that was planned on Wayag.
When leaving Australia months ago, Wayag was the destination we were heading for, with no real plans for where we would go next.
The guide book had suggested that the anchorage at Wayag could fit 4 or 5 boats, but we knew from the online tools that there were many more boats already there, including some close friends.
On arrival, the scene was stunning. There were so many boats anchored in clear water over white sand, with reefs of coral along the shoreline, and there was till plenty of room for more. So we anchored up, had a swim, and went off to meet up with the others on the beach.
It was a great night, in clear warm weather. Fortunately the water is a warm 32 degrees, as at high tide we had to stand around in knee deep water as the beach vanished.
The night concluded with the collection of fireworks, that others had brought with them on their boats, booming in the new year at midnight.
