After the time in Zoe Bay, we came around to Dungeness to buy some mosquito coils, before heading north up the Hinchinbrook Channel.
We had a nice meal in the pub at Dungeness, and tied up to the wharf to fill our water tanks, before motoring up the channel to Haycock Island. Here we saw our first crocodile; about 4 metres long it cruised around the boats and the mangrove leaf debris that drifted on the tide. We continued to move up the channel slowly, anchoring in a few of the creeks, but felt a bit threatened by the huge crocodiles that we saw. In Gayundah Creek, the resident croc seemed to know about the floats on our crab pots, swimming from one to another, before diving to inspect the trap on the bottom under the float. We have been told that crocs will eat the trapped crabs from within the pot.
With fear of getting into the dinghy, we rafted up with Tat2 to enjoy sundowners.
