We ended up at the Pont Alexandre III on both days we were in Paris. This bridge in the centre of Paris lies between the Grand Palace and the Hรดtel des Invalides.
The Grand Palace is just off the Champs Elyees and between memorials to Winston Churchill and Franklin D Roosevelt. It was built for the Expo of 1900, and replaced a Museum of Industry on this site.
The Hรดtel des Invalides is a military museum, that was established in the 17th century, and is a very majestic building.
The bridge itself was built at the same time as the Grand Palace. It is named after the Tsar of Russia, whose son laid a foundation stone in the construction. It has a number of hollow bronze statues on its approaches, and the bridge itself is an ornate arch that is of notably low profile by design, so that it does not obscure the view of the surrounding buildings and monuments.
