It was a short 20nm sail over from Kai Kecil to Pulau Walir today. The breeze never went over 10 knots, and it was so calm.
We are trying get further north to the island of Misool, and are having to pick the days to travel as the SE trade winds die away for the end of the season. There appears to be a calm patch in the lee of the bigger Kai Islands, and it works out for us that there are a couple of anchorages here to the west, allowing us to grab a bit of distance out of the big jump to Seram that will follow in the next few days.
Fishing equipment provide obstacles for our navigation. Big squid platforms anchored off Ngurbloat were easily avoided as we left, but the huge area of pearl farm structures restricted our passage up the channel to the west of P Walir. Using our satellite image software, a nice shallow anchorage was found on a patch of clean sand near P Nee.
