We woke to a glass out with not breath of wind, but were keen to continue travelling north towards Raja Ampat. The destination of Pulau Akat was selected, at a distance of 22nms.
We agreed that we would motor the entire distance if required, so set off after breakfast. We found a favourable current assisting us once clear of the reef, and soon had a little breeze, and were able to shutdown the engine and sail slowly. We both enjoy the moment of silence when the engine goes off. We’d rather sail at 2 knots than burn fuel. And with only 2 knots of breeze, that was about all we could make.
As the day went on, the breeze freshen slightly, getting up to around 7 knots as we arrived, and coming from a more favourable direction, allowing us to swap the genoa for the spinnaker again.
Pulau Akat is a scenic little island, surrounded by shallow sea.
