This time the 3D printer has given us an underwater floating handle for our new GoPro camera. The last few days of cloudy and rainy weather has limited our incoming solar power, so there has been insufficient storage in our battery to run the printer. A nice sunny day has dried us out again and topped up our lithium house battery, and the printer has been busy again.
This handle was designed in OpenSCAD and printed in PLA using a 1.0mm wall thickness and a 10% honeycomb centre so that it is light enough to float the camera. That was tested in a bucket of nice clean rainwater that had just been collected off the roof. The design features a flat bottom on the bulbous base with a passage to attach a lanyard, and was printed in a high visibility colour to make it easier to find if it was ever lost.
Look for some underwater coral reef photos and videos off this rig later in the year.
