Beginning life as a set of plans, SeeBeeZee is a catamaran that we built on our shed at home, and launched it at Wooli just three years after laying down the first frame of one hull.
She is a Peter Snell engineered Easy Cat of the “Sarah” design. She is 12m long and 6m beam, drawing about 750mm, she weighed about 4.5 tonnes when launched, but has since bloated with the things required for daily life weighing her down.
That shed where she was built is connected to the stand-alone power system in our house at Pillar Valley on the north coast of NSW Australia, so you could say that SeeBeeZee was almost exclusively built using solar energy; almost – we had to use a petrol generator to run the big air compressor for the spray painting, but all other power tools were powered using solar panels and batteries.
