After our visit to the KGR Twin Falls, we came back down the river and anchored in a reach of the river near the East Arm. Near to where we anchored, there was a little watercourse entering the main river after falling over the side of the cliffs from the plateau above. This water course is too small to create a full waterfall, but instead trickles and cascades, and has eroded out a hole in the side of the cliff, and runs hard enough to wash a gutter in the mangrove forest that grows along the side of the river here in the lower reaches below the gorge. We took the dinghy into the gutter, and anchored it off the rocks while we climbed ashore and explored the watercourse that is now dry at this time of year.
It was quite a scramble over the rocks and boulders to reach the bottom of cliff that is more than 100m tall, where a huge hols has been washed out of the creek bed, an obvious sign of the amount of water that must tumble over from the plateau above in the wet season. Along the side of the canyon, ledges of sandstone form under huge overhangs.
This area would be inaccessible during the wet season. Marks on the rocks indicate that fast flowing water many metres deep run through here at times.
