For 2023, we again headed north along the Queensland coast, hoping to get as far as possible but with no fixed plan for where that might be. Having no plan is always the best plan when cruising by sail boat. Just let the wind take you.
We didn’t go south into NSW in the summer of 2022/23, choosing instead to enjoy the area from Moreton Bay through to the Gold Coast, an area, that despite being right in the middle of one of Australia’s biggest metropolis, that at times feels quite remote, especially up the mangrove creeks between Jumpinpin and the Logan River. We moved back and forwards through this area a number of times, sailing through the narrow channels with favourable winds.
The SE trades blew really hard this year, and once at the Whitsundays, we were reluctant to push on, as the weather seemed a little unusual. So we enjoyed the various islands and beaches of the 100 Magic Miles before getting south into NSW over the summer.
