From Gallery Bay we moved on fairly quickly. A few days were taken at Koolama Bay while the winds were too strong and the tides at the wrong time of day for our passage around Cape Londonerry, where the tides run hard and whip up steep seas when the wind is fresh.
While in the calm of the bay, I took the opportunity to make some changes to SeeBeeZee, with holes being cut through the deck in our cabin to install flush flexible solar panels on the forward deck. Dry season in northern Australia is the perfect time for timber and epoxy boat building, with the temperatiure just right and the air dry.
The slots co-incide with the butt block that joins two deck sheets, so have been cut through where the deck is doubly thick
We’ve done this coast before, and moved from Koolama to Butterfly Bay, then around the top of WA in perfect conditions, but the tide caught us before making the anchorage at Sharp Point so detoured to the Governor Islands before heading to Freshwater with perfect wind and tide.
This is as far we made it last year, turning back to Darwin again before the weather turned.
A few days at Freshwater enabled us to fill with water, get the dirty clothes washed and take time for a swim. From here, it is all a new world for us.
