I have just spent the afternoon with the operators from North Coast Heavy Towing surveying the route to Yamba. They are putting in an application for the wide load permit and we should should know in a week whether the chosen route is acceptable.
Given the thorough planning and consideration that I saw today, I feel confident that they will get this boat safely to the water.
PS after all the work surveying to Yamba, we had to do it again, this time to Wooli. The Yamba option is just too expensive. The highway authority will only allow the wide load onto the Pacific Motorway between 10:00am and 2:00pm, and the local council will only allow the wide load on the narrow Yamba road between midnight and 4:00am. This means that the boat would have to sit parked at Harwood Bridge from 2:00 until midnight at the earliest, and would require at least 3 shifts of drivers across the time required.
PPS we have been given approval for the load to go to Wooli, so we will launch down there, and motor around to Yamba to fit the mast (that has already been delivered).
