Upstream from the tidal race at Kaliburi, the narrow river opens into a huge bay, more than 20 nautical miles (around 40km) to the other side. This area of water is the reason why the tide runs so strongly through the narrow gorge back at Kaliburi, and that restriction reduces the tidal range inside the bay.
We moved a short distance into the bay so that we can explore some of the sights of the shoreline.
Yesterday we did a little loop around the bay, travelling north along the shore into a creek and then a beach, before looping around to some bays to the south of SeeBeeZee. The mangrove creek runs out of a limestone gorge, and we navigated up the creek until we found a huge fallen boulder and tree trunk blocking the creek, before continuing north to a beach where we made a chilling discovery!
