Adjacent to our anchorage in the river at Kali Biru was a narrow canyon, so well hidden that it could not be seen until almost inside it. The water within the canyon is really deep, right up to the cliffs, and can be approached without any concern of running aground until deep within where there is a shallow beach where the creek runs down to the ocean.
In many places along the overhanging cliffs of the river outside the canyon, locals have arranged bamboo poles to poke out horizontally, and from these set lines are set by the fishermen.
Once we stumbled on to this little canyon that runs perpendicularly down into the river, we were awe struck that such a geological structure can even exist. The canyon is so narrow but so deep, and covered in vegetation, that it does not seems possible.
The jungle itself supports a wide range of noisy bird life, with friar birds squawking all day or night, and the whooshing of heavy hornbills tearing the air with their big wings.
Within, the air was cool and calm, as the freshwater that has eroded the rock with this fissure seems to cool the jungle around it. This small area around the Blue River continues to amaze us with the diversity of nature to be seen.
