After stopping at Reveley Island to survey the entrance into the river, we set off at first light to use the rising tide to cross the bar. Once inside the river, we anchored at First Creek (also known as Wollangooloo Creek), the first creek on the northern side of the river. About a mile up the narrow mangrove lined creek, it comes to a rock wall and waterfall, where it changes from salt to fresh water.
There was only a dribble of fresh water coming over the rocks over the ledge and into the creek, and we secured the dinghies to the ledge and explored the waterholes upstream.
On the way back, we busted off the fuel hose attachment on our outboard, and would have been stranded trying to row against the fresh breeze and strong current. It is times like these that the safety of travelling with a buddy in remote areas becomes apparent, and we were happy to get a tow back to SeeBeeZee, where enough spare parts were available to replace the broken connection.
