From Tapa Bay we sailed two days back to back to get to Cape Ford where our buddy boat Keira were waiting for us.
From Tapa Bay a big tide was ebbing and we were able to use the extra water to take a short cut across near to Bare Sand Island and were making the most of the strong tide with a fresh SE breeze early, but typical of what we have been seeing now since the end of the wet season, the fresh overnight land breeze that begins in the early hours of the morning dropped off as the land heated up through the day. After a short period of total calm, when we ran one motor slowly to maintain steerage, the breeze filed in again as a sea breeze for the afternoon, but calm enough to allow us to anchor in the exposed bay at Blaze Point.
The next morning we were up and going again before sunrise to make the most of the land breeze, which followed the same pattern as yesterday. It again dropped out in the afternoon, and we motor sailed for an hour as the flood tide was holding us back, before the wind dropped altogether, and we had to motor for an hour to reach the anchorage at Cape Ford where Keira had been.
Today we took the dinghy in to the little creek on the Cape and caught a few fish each, and tomorrow we will head off again, to continue our hopping along the coast towards the Kimberley.
