Returning to Wooli at the end of the trip is the obvious end to this year’s journey. It’s now 2018, but it’s really the end of our 2017 trip that took us to Bowen.
Because of the narrow and shallow entrance to the river, it is important to arrive at Wooli at the top of the tide, when the bar will be at its calmest. To achieve this accurately, the best way to arrive at Wooli from the north is to plan to stop at the Clarence, and then the time required for the shorter voyage down to Wooli can be better predicted. We had a lovely run down from the overnight stop at Iluka, and an uneventful crossing of the Wooli bar.
