Sunrise over Wathumba Creek from our overnight anchorage out in Hervey Bay
We used the high tide last night to leave the creek and anchor offshore so that we could make an early start this morning.
With Bustard Bay as the intended destination for today, we needed good conditions to cover this distance of over 90 nautical miles.
For this, we were lucky, as as soon as the sun rose, we had a nice little SW breeze that held all day, backing around to SE as the heat of the sun drove a bit of a sea breeze. Some hours we covered more than 8 miles; others were slow.
We were just south of Round Hill when the setting sun forced us to sock up the spinnaker for the day. It was only a short distance for us to run “wing and wing” with the main and genoa to come to anchor of the mouth of Round Hill Creek and the town of 1770. The seabed in the bay offshore from the town is quite “wavy”, with the soft sand forming underwater undulating dunes of sand. With a fair sized swell running, we stayed well offshore and had a very comfortable sleep.
